Why go on tour before the album is finished?
Early last year when Gwen finished her tour, she came to us and said, "I'm going to be home for a year having a baby. Let's start working on a No Doubt record. It's time." So we started writing and hanging out, and that got waylaid because Gwen was pregnant and my wife was pregnant. After that, Gwen said, "What would be really inspiring for me would be to keep working on the album, but let's do a bunch of shows in the summer." I think she was missing the vibe and energy of us playing live. For so many years, before we ever made records, we were really just a live band and that was always the part that was so immediate and exciting, just playing on stage. So the idea was just to get energized by having shows to look forward to and playing the old songs again and seeing everybody out there.
