What is Lil short for?
Lil is actually short for my grandmother's name. That's my name. You know it's not really short for anything or nothing like that. That's my birth name.

Your hometown, Memphis, is one of the great music cities. How did Memphis influence your style and tastes?
It influenced [me] as far as being able to feel like an artist -- you can do whatever you want to do because Memphis has all genres. It's not just this one thing that is held down you know for it. But they do all types of music, so I just kind of picked up what I felt in my heart and that was gospel R&B.
