Melinda Doolittle might have been Simon's girl when she was a contestant on American Idol, but she's on her own now. Armed with her first solo album Coming Back to You, Melinda proves she's ready to leave her backup days behind and be front and center.

How would you describe the sound of this album?
Retro soul would be the best way to describe it. It's definitely a throwback record but it's still current to what we love about music today. [It's] definitely that retro feel, you know kind of Gladys Knight meets Tina Turner, a little blues in there, all of that. So I'm extremely excited about the record.
