Now that you've taken on Emmett, what other book character would you want to play?
I'm obsessed with John Grisham's books. When I was in Africa doing Generation Kill, I bought every one. I was in my humvee for 16 hours, so I would just read, read, read. I just fell in love with his thrillers.

Did you watch any vampire movies for Twilight inspiration?
I didn't. I'm used to watching movies like The Lost Boys, Underworld, and Van Helsing, but all those movies depict the vampire as the villain. I really can't name a movie where the vampire was the good guy or funny guy. But reading the books and having [Twilight author] Stephenie Meyer on set helped. We talked about a passage she left out of the book called 'Emmett and the Bear.' It depicted Emmett and Edward's relationship and how Emmett came to be.
