What's it like taking over a role that other people have played?
There are certain things that I have to do: there are traffic patterns that have been set for 12 years, there's blocking/staging that I have to adhere to, and there are certain things that the director likes that have just been set in stone, like, "On this word, make sure that you touch Roger." Certain very specific things that are sort of ingrained, but really those become second nature, and a lot of it, you do have creative control and free range over to make it your own. It really was about playing the role in terms of how it makes sense to me because that's going to be the strongest performance and the most honest performance and will ultimately be better for the show, as opposed to trying to make someone imitate what's been done because that will read as false. So I think I brought a lot of my own experience and my own flavor to what I do with the part.
