Going to the album, which song is most emblematic of your sound?
"Secret Valentine." I've been playing piano since I was 4, and it was the one track that we got to put a little bit of piano in. If our sophomore record were out now, "Secret Valentine" would be the direction we would wanna go [in].

Is there a real Juliet that inspired "Check Yes Juliet"?
Juliet (for Romeo and Juliet) represents the entire female species. I used the middle school theme of a love note and trying to get a girl that you would think is way out of your league. It's an underdog going out for that person that they love.

Like those notes that say "If you like me, circle: yes or no."
Those notes were awesome. I got so many no's back then, but I kept trucking. Maybe if I wrote them now, I'd get a few yeses.
