In the show, John is under house arrest a lot, but he's always trying to sneak out. Did you ever sneak out of the house as a teen?
Well, I actually can't say that I did much crazy stuff as a teenager, but when I was in junior high I ran away from my house several times. It was kind of a weird thing. I had an urgency to be independent. I would just walk or run or hit the road and try to make my way out somewhere far away from my house. I would get food in grocery stores and kind of pretend I was shopping and just eat while I did it. And then eventually, I'd lose strength and go home. It was a very odd thing [laughs].
