Phantom Planet is emblematic of a high school band making good. But that doesn't mean their ride's been totally smooth. Last album, they parted with their most famous member, actor Jason Schwartzman; now for Raise The Dead, they've left their label and went to Fueled By Ramen, home of Fall Out Boy, Paramore, and Panic at the Disco. What's up with these "California" boys? (Yes, they sang the OC theme song.) Alex Greenwald fills us in!
Where do you see yourself in the FBR family?
A lot of bands that they have are labeled as emo. I've never been classified as an emo artist. In any walk of life, evolution demands a bit of conflict or change, you know, like the fish that grew feet. It's a very successful fish that we're on, and it just acquired a really bad evolution analogy.
