Matthew Fox said he spent a few years out of spotlight after Party of Five so audiences would accept him as another character, as they do now on Lost. Do you feel the same way?
There's a lot of truth to what Matthew said -- television is a very powerful medium. To be on a show that had some success and permeated the pop cultural zeitgeist makes people associate you with the character more than they might if it was just a film. Since The OC, I've picked projects that in my mind are quite different than The OC. I've tried to do things that aren't the film version of The OC, whether it's a teen thriller or a teen comedy. But it basically comes down to how other people view you. Maybe I'll just hole up in a cabin for a few years and chop some wood, go work on my horseback riding or something.
