What was the writing process like for "Somebody to Love"?
I was at a little studio in Brooklyn. There's a little garden in the back and I was just chilling out there. It was fun and I think the song speaks for what was going through my mind at the time. It's very sexy and vibe-y; a little moody but still fast and dance-y. But there's a lot of feeling. It reminds me of the night. I love beautiful melody and I love songs that are lyrically driven and this one definitely is to some degree, but it's also very simple.
Do you usually write songs about personal experiences?
I'm inspired my own love life and my friends and sexuality and fashion, traveling, work. I'm really inspired by a lot of other artists and just a lot of things going on in my life. And that's kind of what this song is about. My mom always told me you can find somebody to love, everyone will love you, of course this is my mom saying that, but it's not about who loves you -- it's about who you love.
