Oh man, what a day.
I went on iTunes and downloaded episodes 2 AND 3 of Kaya and was so happy to finally see them! They are awesome! Yes, I know I’m in them and that sounds egotistical, but come on people -- they are actually really good! Also the behind-the-scenes kick a**! Can I say a** in a blog? I’m not sure -- let’s test it out. A**, a**, a**. If I can’t say a**, they’ll probably change it to butt or rear or something, so if that’s what you’re reading right now, you know what I really mean. Anyway, it’s super cool.
So hi everyone! I feel like you all know me but I don’t know you. What’s your name? What’s your favorite color? If you had a choice between Ace Ventura and Billy Madison, what would you chose? It’s tough, I know. Personally, I’d have to pick Ace Ventura, only because I’m obsessed with Jim Carrey, but I love Billy Madison, too so I respect both answers. It’s true though, I sent Jim Carrey a letter when I was 16, and he sent me a signed pictured that I take with me everywhere to this day. True story.
So, I realize that I alluded to stories that I would tell in my first blog so long ago, and I have yet to tell said stories. I will tell them today. So I lived in…what’s that? Do I have a YouTube page? Why, yes I do, so weird of you to ask in the middle of a sentence. Go to it and check out lots of cool videos. Wow. That was strange. I’m so against shameless self-promotion, but I gotta give the people what they want.
Now, stop interrupting -- I have stories to tell. Yes, I’m on the soon to be hit scripted drama for MTV called Kaya, but I wasn’t always. I started out as a stand-in. Shameful secret. My first job in the business was as Seth Green’s stand-in for the movie Rat Race. It was an awesome experience! Seth was great, and I actually got to work with him later on when I did Scooby Doo 2 as an actor. I’m a big Family Guy fan, and we talked a lot about how he developed the voice for Chris. It was pretty rad. Oh yeah, I’m bringing that word back by the way. Rad. Tell your friends. After stand-in work, I did a lot of background performing or extra work. A funny thing -- my band Day Theory was in the movie Saved with Mandy Moore and Macaulay Culkin, playing the Christian band “Godflight,” but if you look closely, I’m also an extra in a previous scene in the movie. I think that may be the first time that’s ever happened. Also, I’m listening to this band Mariana’s Trench right now and they kick butt!! (I’m saying that for fear of censorship.) Seriously, they’re awesome, and you should check them out! Why am I telling you about them? Because they’re awesome, and I want to fill your rooms with awesomeness, that’s why! I’m providing a service really. You’re welcome. Life as an actor is full of service.
I just talked to Justin from Kaya, and he’s doing great. I’m moving down to L.A. in January to live with him. It’s gonna be pretty crazy -- a couple of actor/musicians in a house in Hollywood. I’m sure we’ll have lots of stories and adventures to report. He’s got a band too called Bonnie Dune -- here's their MySpace. So good! You’ll love them. Trust me, I know you. Remember, we had that moment 10 sentences earlier? How quick you move on. It’s OK. I still love you.
If you haven’t already, go to iTunes right now and download the behind-the-scenes segment of Kaya. You won’t be disappointed. I wasn’t, and I’m a jaded musician. That’s all for now kids! Tune in next week when you hear me say: “Ski masks? I thought they were penguins!” You’re all rad!
-- Joe
