Hi everyone.
You don’t know me yet, but you will. I play Manny in the soon-to-be hit scripted half-hour drama for MTV called Kaya. Manny is the bass player of Crossing Coldwater, the band that Kaya sings for. It’s really cool music and really fun to play. We shot the first ten episodes in Vancouver, Canada, and we all became rock stars for the summer. Seriously, it was life imitating art. There was a lot of partying and playing music. I’m a musician as well as an actor, so this all came easy for me. Playing the bass was not so easy. I was the lead singer of a rock band called Day Theory for three years, and I play guitar and piano for the solo project that is myself, but bass was new.
I spent a good three months locked in my studio apartment with a fender jazz bass and a lot of YouTube videos of Flea. I sound nothing like him of course, but it was good inspiration. Now, I am a bass player/actor/musician/party animal/Heroes enthusiast. That last thing had nothing to do with anything, but seriously how awesome is that show!
After learning to play the bass, shooting was a breeze. We all get along so great. Justin, Cory, Danielle and I hung out all the time over the summer, even when we weren’t shooting. We watched a lot of movies. It was the best summer ever. Like I said, life is hard for Joe MacLeod. I’m totally distracted by the episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force with the Robot Chicken that’s on right now in my hotel room. If you know what I’m talking about, then you know what I’m talking about. Hilarious.
I have to go watch this, but I’ll have more to say next time. Here’s a sneak preview…I had a run in with Eric McCormack from Will & Grace at a club in Vancouver, was backstage at the Maroon 5 concert with Hayden Panettiere at the VMAs, and had a humble beginning as Seth Green’s stand-in on the movie Rat Race. Oh the suspense!!! Watch Kaya Monday nights at 10:30 p.m. right after The Hills. It’s better than Spencer getting an incurable stomach disease!
Bye ya'll!!
-- Joe
