Sup guys,
I just had a serious Spinal Tap moment. For those of you who don't know Spinal Tap, it's an old movie that spoofs an 80's hair metal band with the same name. It's really funny, making fun of things that happen tobands like stage malfunctions, stupid arguments, controlling girlfriends, bad harmonies, and getting lost in a big venue. Well, the last thing just happened to me...
Brad and I went to a radio station in Atlantic City, NJ, this afternoon called WJSE The Ace to do an interview and play a couple songs. Sean from the station drove us back to the House of Blues where we're playing with The Used tonight. He dropped us off where our van was parked behind the venue.
I got my bags together and headed to the elevator. It was one of those cargo elevators with the huge cage doors. But I figured out how to work it and took it to the floor marked House Of Blues. It dropped me off in a loooong hallway that looked nothing like a venue. There were tool closets and a kitchen, etc. The first door I opened was a casino with a whole rack of old ladies playing slot machines. Wrong place! So I continued down the hall and saw signs pointing to the HOB. I followed these signs around the halls for what seemed like literally a mile. And it was like a big circle, too... I ended up passing all kinds of waiters, maids, janitors, kitchens, and stuff, looking for the venue.
I ended up at another cargo elevator. Three of the buttons said HOB, so I tried all three and couldn't figure out where to go. Finally, I saw someone and asked him where I should go. He told me right down the hall and turn left. Another mile and four turns later, I found what appeared to be the venue. But there was no way to get to the dressing room! To make this long story shorter, I finally got backstage and a guy pointed me to the dressing rooms, which were upstairs. He said I could take the elevator, I told him "no thanks". I didn't want to get lost again. So instead, my genius self climbed three flights of stairs, only to find out I was at the wrong side of the venue and had to do it all over again to find our dressing room. A few wrong doors opened, then I finally found it and a lovely tray of fresh fruit! Aaaaah.
And here I am writing you! Well, hopefully the show goes smoother than my trip to the dressing room. Oh, and I forgot my acoustic guitar in the radio guy's car.. So I'm gonna have to do this all over again. Wish me luck!
Xoxo,
Vince
