An Oscar for the Joker

The Dark Knight did phenomenally well at the box office last weekend, thanks in part to Heath Ledger's haunting performance as the Joker. All that's left now is to chisel Heath's name into a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. "To be that incredible in a movie that's this huge, that's about so many things, is really an accomplishment," his Dark Knight co-star Maggie Gyllenhaal told reporters at the movie's European premiere in London on Monday. "In a way, I feel funny thinking about the Oscars when he isn't alive, but at the same time I'm a member of the Academy and I would vote for him." Similarly, Michael Caine, who plays Batman's butler in the movie, says he "would pay good money" to see a performance that could beat out Heath for the Academy Award. Us too!
