Austin Lessons

On my last time off from tour, I stayed in Silverlake, California. The street I lived on was magical, but the cost of living killed me for those few weeks I lived there, plus I couldn't stand LA traffic. So, this time off, I chose to relocate to Austin. My friend let me stay in his place for an incredible price. Let me just say: I am living in paradise! I had a fried avocado taco for lunch, and I must admit I've had one everyday. The food is cheap. There is no traffic. There are loads of cozy coffee shops up and down Sixth Street and Congress. I have been here for a little over a week and I haven't run out of things to do.

The best thing about this place is the music saturated in the city. I try to take lessons on our breaks because you can always learn something! I found the most amazing teacher who is blowing my mind by showing me knew techniques on improvisation, new styles, and polishing off my music theory knowledge. I won't bore you with all the technical aspects of music -- after all, music is for you to enjoy and me to figure out.

The people I've met here are exciting and so welcoming. I believe I have developed friendships that will last for a very long time. If any of you have the chance, come visit Austin. It has a lot more to offer than cowboys and Indians!

I've only got two more weeks here and then it is off to practice for Warped Tour. I love it here, but I miss my band and my sister. Hope to see everyone this summer!
