"Papa Don't Preach" Video Shoot

"Papa Don't Preach," the second single off Madonna's third album, created a whirlwind of controversy. At the center of the storm was the song's music video, which depicts a pregnant teenage mother (depicted by Madge herself) who wants to keep the baby. Parents, conservative religious groups, and women's organizations criticized the song, saying it glorified teenage pregnancy, but Madonna denied the claims and stuck by her "baby." So did MTV -- the video won Best Female Video at the 1987 VMAs.
