Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction
Madonna was bound for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and on March 10, 2008, she was inducted into the Hall on her first try. (To be considered for entry, an artist must have begun to release music 25 years earlier.) Justin Timberlake, with whom she sings "4 Minutes" off Hard Candy, presented Madonna at the ceremony, and Iggy Pop performed punked-up versions of "Burnin' Up" and "Ray of Light" in her honor. "The ones that said I was talentless, that I was chubby, that I couldn't sing, that I was a one-hit wonder," Madonna said in her acceptance speech. "They pushed me to be better, and I am grateful for their resistance." But we think Justin said it best in his introduction: "The world is full of Madonna wannabes. I might have even dated a couple. But there truly is only one Madonna."
