Why We're Stoked: Their name sounds metalcore, but Vampire Weekend is anything but. Blending Afro-pop melodies and rhythms with an indie rock sensibility, the band (who formed while studying at Columbia University in spring 2006) has created a sound that's really unlike any other out there today. Vampire Weekend is creating major buzz in New York, and they'll undoubtedly continue on to take the music scene by storm. How do we know? In June 2007, the New York Times (!) wrote of the band, "Even without an album, Vampire Weekend have made one of the most impressive debuts of the year." Wow! If that's not a gold star review, we don't know what is.
