After an impromptu strip tease on MTV's TRL in July 2001 (yikes!), watching "Loverboy" nosedive on the charts, and breaking up with her then-BF, Latin singer Luis Miguel, Mariah was hanging on by a thread. Add a grueling, two-week European promotional tour and it was no wonder the troubled diva suffered from "extreme exhaustion"! Just before checking into a hospital for medical and psychiatric help, Mariah left an incoherent message on her website that was promptly removed, with a statement from her publicist explaining that Mariah was "obviously very tired and not thinking clearly." Unfortunately, the worst was yet to come (anyone remember her ill-fated movie, Glitter?). Thankfully, Mariah made a comeback in 2005 with her album, The Emancipation Of Mimi.
