Life After Laguna Beach
Do you get lots of fans following you around when you're in NYC for TRL?
I've had girls try to get into my hotel room. I mean, they don't try to get in. They're innocent, and just kinda knock. They're usually just people who come to [TRL]. And they'll see me go to the hotel from the MTV studios. They'll see what floor I get off at, and you know… But I'm kind of asking for it, I guess, working so close to where I'm staying.
It's funny, actually. The other day, we gave out Guitar Hero 2's to the audience because it was Gamers Week on TRL. So when I got out of the studio, I just kind of walked back [to the hotel] avoiding anyone with a Guitar Hero 2! It was like dodging the Guitar Hero 2's. They'd have big packages.
So how's the VJ gig going?
It's going well. I started just doing some small things for [MTV], like New Year's Eve and the TRL Awards back in February. We were just working on a deal for a while. I basically started VJ-ing for them when I did Beach House back in March. And since then, I've been coming out [to New York] every 2 weeks and staying for the week.
Think you'll host New Year's Eve again this year? With Vanessa Minnillo?
I very well could be... I hope so!
What's it like working with her? Are you friends outside the show?
[Laughs]. Um, we're friends. It's kinda, um... I mean, we don't hang out outside of work. But she's a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun doing the show together.
