So, this is a scene from Dreamgirls and I play the part of Effie. Effie is the confident, sassy lead singer of a 60s girl group until she is kicked out by the other members in their quest for stardom. In this scene, Effie has just been told by her manager/boyfriend that she is being replaced as the lead singer. This moment is when the whole cast gathers around to comfort her and tell her that they are putting her in the background because her voice is too special to crossover to the pop charts. She is devastated as they sing a really beautiful song called "Family" to her. We filmed this scene at L.A. Center Studios in Los Angeles. Beyoncé, Jamie, Anika, Keith and I worked closely with our great director Bill to capture the moment just right.
