How did you get started with this sweet gig?
I never premeditated or planned [anything in my life]. Growing up, everyone always told me I should be a lawyer. I went to an all boys school in Miami, and pretty much all the lawyers and politicians [there] went to my school. But I went to NYU [for college] to study acting. I was the black sheep! (I think everyone should open themselves to possibilities and never try to fit into a mold that is uncomfortable for them.) Then, I moved out to L.A., and I didn't make it as an actor. So I ended up working in PR and then as a freelance journalist. When you freelance, you have a lot of time, [so I started the site]. It was just a blog then -- I don't consider it a blog now. I'm able to make a full time living doing it, and I treat it as a credible news organization that it is. I break stories on a daily basis, and it's an online entertainment outlet, as I refer to it. So I just started it for fun, and it kind of took on a life of its own.
Why do you think your blog got so popular? How are you able to break so many gossip stories?
One of the things that sets me apart [from other blogs] is that I was a journalist before I began the site. All my friends work in entertainment -- they work in studios, at the networks and record labels, and in PR -- so they would just always tell me things. Then, I finally had an outlet to talk about them. Within a month, I was already breaking stories.
How do you get people to give you such great scoops?
It takes trust and relationships.
