Go Betty Go
Step aside, Kelly Osbourne and The Donnas; Go Betty Go are the new punk princesses! After playing for five years, the four girls got their big break traveling with the Warped Tour for the past two summers. Pretty lead singer Nicolette Vilar, who plays with her big sis, Aixa, and their two friends, Michelle and Betty, says they fit in fine on the boy-dominated tour. "We're not the kind of girl band that talks bad about guys," she says. "We just want to make music and have fun." With their rockin' debut album, Nothing Is More, these girls are set for success. Here, Nicolette gripes about the music biz, admits her material girl crush, and tells you to blow your nose!
What do you like most about being a girl?
I love that I can do tons of things to my hair. I love cute shoes. I love big earrings and accessories. I love boys!
What bothers you most about being a girl?
I never felt discriminated against until I started singing in the band. It's a very male-oriented career, and the women that I see are all in miniskirts with their fake boobs and too much makeup, and it's sad. This is music for everybody, so why do girls feel that the only way they can get into it is by being completely sexualized? I don't see any respectable female musicians in our young, mainstream music, and that disappoints me in a big way.
