Did you know that Jena Malone was legally emancipated from her mother at the age of 16? It's true, all thanks to a 1939 California law that requires that 15 percent of a child's earnings is to be set aside until he or she reaches 18 years old. The actress had sued her momager, Debbie, charging that she misused more than $1.2 million of her earnings, drained her college fund and failed to pay taxes. Suffice to say that Debbie's career as Jena's manager was over. In 2000, Jena was pronounced legally emancipated from her mother, who was prohibited from meddling in Jena's career and earnings. Sounds like Julia Roberts isn't such a bad option for a Stepmom, huh?!
