Deanna Casaluce

You've been on Degrassi for a while, but as a secondary character. How did it feel to join the main cast? People might [think] it happened all at once, but to me, it came very gradually. I auditioned pretty seriously for the roles of Paige and Ashley six years ago, right from the get go. I was in the room with Lauren and Melissa [McIntyre]. We were like, "Oh, so it’s gonna be two of us. Who is it gonna be?" And unfortunately, it wasn’t me. For a while, I stopped going on [TV] auditions because I was so upset, and I did theatre instead. Finally, I got a call, three years later and they said, "We have role for you -- Alex." And it just sort of grew from there.

How are you like Alex in real life? I’m like Alex in the way that I’m very independent and Alex is very independent. She figures things out by herself, and she takes things in her own hands. In that way, I’m very much like Alex. I do have a close group of people I can rely on when I’m going through something, but I’m not as dependent on that as most people might be.
