We Why Heart Jack White

Last year, Radiohead turned the music biz on its head when they let buyers set the price they'd pay for In Rainbows. Now, The Raconteurs (aka Jack White's side project) have flipped the industry around once again.

Just today, the band announced that they're releasing their sophomore full-length album, Consolers of the Lonely, on March 25 (exactly one week from today) at every music retailer imaginable -- from local mom and pop indie retailers, to corporate superstores, to iTunes, to Amazon, to the band’s website, to any other location that can get the album up quick enough. Even stranger is that the band hasn't done any interviews or put out any advertisements for the record before their announcement. "We wanted to explore the idea of releasing an album everywhere at once and then marketing and promoting it thereafter," they say. "The Raconteurs would rather this release not be defined by its first weeks sales, pre-release promotion, or by someone defining it for you before you get to hear it." That way, the band adds, "all at the EXACT SAME TIME so that no one has an upper hand on anyone else regarding it’s availability, reception or perception."

We love it! Rock on, Raconteurs!
