A Dress Code Mess

First, Gwen Stefani; now, Beyoncé. Anyone who's anyone is getting banned from Malaysia!

Scheduled for Nov. 1, B's Kuala Lumpur concert has been canceled following protests by local Muslim groups, Billboard reports. And while Gwen ended up performing in the conservative country, Beyoncé won't be making her Malaysian debut because she refuses to abide by the country's strict dress code and rules for performers, insiders say.

Enacted by 2005, the code specifies that a performer's outfit cannot have obscene or drug-related images or messages and that female performers must be covered from the tops of their chests to their knees. It also mandates that artists cannot hug or kiss audience members or fellow artists, jump, shout, use foul language, or throw objects onstage or at the audience. In order to play her sold-out show at the 9,000-seat Putra Stadium, Gwen had to wear jackets over her tops and leotards under her skirts and dresses -- a "major sacrifice" she was willing to make, she said, because she wanted Malaysian fans to see her perform live. We guess B considers her concert costumes to be "irreplaceable."
