Well, if you haven't heard by now, we're here to report that Lindsay Lohan's sentence has been passed down, and boy, is she lucky! Instead of standing trial the seven misdemeanors that were filed against her (the L.A. County District Attorney decided not to file felony charges), Lindsay struck a deal by pleading no contest to reckless driving and two counts of DUI, as well as pleading guilty to two counts of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
As punishment, Lindsay was sentenced to four days in jail, which was cut in half because the judge decided to give her 10 days of community service instead. Lindsay was also credited one day for the time she served when she was arrested. Grand total of jail time? One day behind bars. L. Lo will also be on probation for 36 months, have to attend an alcohol education program for 18 months, and show that she's successfully completed rehab on January 18. In addition, she was ordered not to use controlled substances, enroll in a drug program (which she's already in), stay at her current rehab for an unspecified amount of time, and "not to associate with people with controlled substances."
Lindsay released the following statement to TMZ:
"It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs.
Recently, I relapsed and did things for which I am ashamed. I broke the law, and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case. No matter what I said when I was under the influence on the day I was arrested, I am not blaming anyone else for my conduct other than myself. I thank God I did not injure others. I easily could have.
I very much want to be healthy and gain control of my life and career and have asked for medical help in doing so. I am taking these steps to improve my life. Luckily, I am not alone in my daily struggle and I know that people like me have succeeded. Maybe with time it will become easier. I hope so."
We do, too.
