What's more befitting to celebrate Avril Lavigne's new album, The Best Damn Thing, than the best damn album release party?! We were there last night to celebrate as Avril walked the hot pink carpet outside New York hotspot, The Box. The guest of honor was decked in pink herself, wearing a vintage pink tulle dress, but in her own Avril-esque way: with Doc Martens, fishnet stockings, and a skull ring and necklace with diamonds. Add on pink false eyelashes, pink streaks in her hair, body glitter, heavily lined eyes with glitter eye shadow, and black nails, and you've got one pretty rocker girl!
How would you describe your personal style these days?
Now, every once in a while I just have fun. Tonight I'm wearing a dress, and it's like, yeah I'm wearing a pink dress, but I'm kinda doing it in a way where I'm being really fun with it. I kinda made it a little rock 'n' roll. I'm older now, but I'm still the same girl -- a few years older. Obviously naturally grown like we all do. I guess I would call my style "rock glam."
What's your fave thing about this album?
It's really light; it's not very serious. It's kind of a summer record -- you can put it in your car and totally rock out. It's upbeat -- it's just a lot of fun all the way through.
What made you decide to make an album like that?
This is the kind of music that I come alive to onstage. Every time I play a song like "Sk8ter Boi" or "He Wasn't," I'm like, all right -- I need more songs like this because I'm onstage every single night for over an hour, so I'm always trying to make my set really fun. I just want to rock out and have a good time, and I'm really excited about my tour this year.
It must suck to be away from your hubby, Deryck, while you're touring? How do you make your relationship work long distance?
We've done it before on our last record because we've been together for a few years. We have the same management and we always make sure that when I have my two weeks off, he has his two weeks off.
