Holy Captain Oats! We've just gotten word that The O.C. will be over and out in 2007. That's right -- the show's four-season run is coming to a close in less than two months. (We can totally hear Mischa Barton laughing her head off.)

So why the sudden ending? "This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close,” said the show's creator and executive producer, Josh Schwartz in a press release. “We have enjoyed our best season yet, and what better time to go out than creatively on top. It has been an amazing experience and a great run. For a certain audience, at a certain time, The O.C. has meant something. For that we are grateful."

On the plus side, this means the rest of the season will be no-holds-barred. (Translation: Maybe Seth and Summer will tie the knot!) Don't miss the series' final original episodes, airing Thursdays at 9 PM ET/PT on Fox from tonight until February 22.
