Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo had a pretty sweet birthday on Friday -- her boyfriend of three years, Chris Ivery, asked her to marry him! Ellen happily accepted the proposal and the 3.5-carat emerald-cut diamond and platinum Tacori ring that went along with it, Us Weekly reports. It wasn't love at first sight for the couple -- or at least for Ellen. The two initially met at a grocery store, but Ellen turned down a date with the man who would be her future fiancé. She changed her tune six months later when the two ran into each other again. The couple soon realized that they grew up in neighboring Boston suburbs. "I had to go 3,000 miles away to meet a guy who practically grew up next door, but I guess everything comes full circle," Ellen told the Boston Herald last year. And even though she didn't think so at first, Ellen truly believes that she and Chris are soul mates. "We were six degrees our whole lives, so I feel like we were sort of meant to be," Ellen told People last month. Personally, we prefer McDreamy to Ellen's real-life hunk, but we're super happy for the actress and her man. Congrats!
