Ronnie Day on Ronnie Day in Five Words or Less:

My name is Ronnie Day.

Why did you call this album, The Album?
I like to think of it as photo album. A photo album holds the key moments of somebody's life. An album, a musical album, can be the same thing -- it can be a collection of key moments in song form, and that's exactly what this album is. It's a collection of the past three years.

You were in different bands in the past. Why are you embarking on a solo career now?
I decided to go solo mostly because I have an ego. I'm very passionate about my music. Sometimes when you're in a band, it can be a bit restrictive. For example, I don't know how anybody else could possibly know exactly how I felt when [Jamie cheated on me]. I don't feel like anybody could share that as intimately with me as I can share it with myself. When I'm writing a song or recording it or building the parts for it, somebody else's input just isn't coming from the same place. I'm definitely going to put a band together for the tour, and possibly the next record, but I've just always liked the freedom that comes with being a solo artist.

Your last name isn't actually Day. How did you come up with that name?
My real last name is eleven letters long, I think. I don't even know how many letters long it is -- I just know that it's too long. I had fans vote on MySpace, and we picked Day, which I really liked at the time. I thought it was optimistic -- day is bright. It's short and easy. About a week later, the song "Collide" started getting a lot of radio play, and everybody became aware of Howie Day, who I'd never heard of before. I still think Day is a cool last name, but it's hard with the likeness now.
