Ronnie Day on Ronnie Day in Five Words or Less:
My name is Ronnie Day.
Speaking of stuff at home, we hear that your album was pretty much fueled by your ex-GF who cheated on you, Jamie.
Yeah it's very complicated. I may have to release another album, Part 2, to try to explain it.
Could you take back someone who cheated on you?
You can never look at that person the same. I could never have the same comfort that I had before [with her]. It definitely amplifies your insecurities and worries. As far as our relationship, she's a really good person and she has a really good heart. It's worth it to find a way to make it work
So are you guys dating, or just friends?
I care about Jamie very much, and she's an important friend to me. She's no longer with that guy [who she cheated on me with]. That's not surprising -- I never expected that to last. But we're talking, and we're trying hard to be on good terms. Like I said, it's complicated.
Why have you chosen to be so open and honest about your relationship and its affect on your music?
Part of it has to do a lot with my personal philosophy. I feel like an honest path is the path to happiness. Another part of it is just the fact that I want the world to know that Jamie broke my heart. I come right out with everything in my lyrics. I think it warrants explanation when you use somebody's name in a song. Some artists use names because it sounds really cryptic and artsy and cool, but Jamie's a real person, and I needed to explain that. The album has a beginning, middle, and end, and if I didn't tell the story behind each song, they might not be aware of that. A lot of artists today don't integrate the story-telling aspect. I listen to a lot of Paul Simon, and I miss that story-telling aspect [in music]. I set out to tell the ultimate story, the story of my break up.
