Alloy: Do you think Japan influenced your style at all?

Amber: Definitely. They have incredible shopping in Japan. There's a shopping section called Harajuku. Now I understand where Gwen Stefani got Harajuku girls from, it’s really interesting. They're so ahead of us in Japan. Back in the beginning of 2006 when I was in Japan, they had those big empire waist belts. But my friend Mika who lives in Japan, was like "don't buy one of those, they are out of fashion." I came back to America and two months after I got back, people were like, "OMG! Empire waist belts!" The same with the saggy boots. I heard about Yohji Yamamoto who is a designer that I really liked, but I never really saw a store of his. So I went there bought a couple of things. And also, I love Vivian Westwood. Holy cow, it's amazing. They definitely have a huge selection there.

Alloy: How would you describe your everyday style?

Amber: I feel like recently my style has really changed. Suddenly I woke up one morning and I was like, "I don’t want to dress like a pretty princess anymore, or like a pretty princess that's gonna ride a pony." I really am enjoying high heels much more than I ever did before. I used to have an absolutely no pointy heels rule. I look back at my old interviews and I said something like, "what I hated more than anything is pointy heels." I'm kind of getting into those more now. I really like the relaxed laid-back look -- anything that involves soft cozy sweaters, tight jeans and high heels. Things that are drapey around the neck, and then paired with tight pants, with some heels.
