The Oohlas on The Oohlas in Five Words or Less:
Dude, we freakin' rock!
There are a lot of bands that we love, but to find a musician who rocks our world is a lot less common -- especially when that musician is a girl. (Why are so many awesome musicians dudes, anyway?) Olivia "Ollie" Stone, the only female member of The Oohlas, is one of those singers/guitarists who makes us happy to be female. She's got unique written all over her, from her cool nickname, to her childlike voice, to her fabulous style. (She even used to shop at Alloy when she was younger!) Plus, she totally holds her own in a band with two boys (Greg Eklund of Everclear and his brother, Mark). Check what this funky chica had to say about fashion, mall concerts, and hanging with the guys.
Where do you shop? How do you pick out what you wear?
I’ll shop anywhere that I can afford. I shop at garage sales, at vintage stores, or in downtown L.A. in the fashion district. I’m broke all the time, so I’ll basically shop wherever I can. If there’s a really freaking awesome amazing shirt that’s like $75, I’ll totally be destitute for two weeks to buy it -- it just depends on how special it is.
How would you describe your personal style? Does it differ when you're performing versus when you're just hanging out?
It depends on my mood. One day, I like colors; one day, I don’t. I dress the same [when I'm performing and when I'm not]. It depends on how comfortable I’m feeling, on how much I feeling like wearing fishnets. It’s not really too planned. Every once in a while when I have a really big show, I’ll wear something I can’t go to breakfast in. Sometimes I’ll step it up, and sometimes I don’t.
