Midwest Meandering

What's up, Alloy!
Kate Voegele here again. Last week I told you guys all about my adventures so far in '09. Said adventures included making my new record, A Fine Mess, shooting my music video for my first single, "99 Times," and the start of my tour. The tour has been off to an amazing start and I'm having so much fun on the road seeing all you guys out at shows every night! I think I left off at the Denver show in my last blog, so I'll pick up after that...

The next day was a day off, and we spent it in Salina, Kansas. It was pouring rain and crazy windy with a bunch of tornado warnings, so we were kinda stuck at the hotel most of the day. The band and I were going a little stir crazy trying to decide what to do. Finally, we rallied the troops and decided to go bowling. Since we're on a tour bus and the driver needs to sleep during the day, we have to take cabs everywhere. And it takes a good half hour to get a cab in Salina, Kansas. So we all made the trip over to All Star Lanes and I have to admit that I was truly awful at it. Haha. My drummer, Bob, however, bowled a 222! It was definitely a good time.

After bowling, we grabbed a bite to eat and headed back to our hotel, where we decided we needed to wind down in the pool. I'm proud to say that even though I was terrible at bowling, I was the winner of both the 'biggest splash' and 'smallest splash' contests by a long shot. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of agreeing to play a game the band likes to call "Voegeletoss" and ended up with some pretty gnarly bruises courtesy of the rope pool-divider thing that have kept me in long pants for the last few shows. Definitely worth it, though.

The next day we played a great show in Lawrence, Kansas at the Bottleneck and got to do a little shopping around town. Lots of great stuff in Lawrence. The next day, we got our bus wrapped so it's all decked out and colorful on the outside in Omaha. There, we played a really fun show at Sokol Underground. We got to eat dinner in the Old Market district, which is a really cool historic artsy little spot in Omaha. You have to check it out if you go.

Speaking of places to check out, Minneapolis the next day was totally amazing. I got to do some shopping at a great vintage store down the street from the Varsity where we played. We also ate dinner at this really cool pasta bar that's super eclectic and kinda reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, which was also right next door. The Minneapolis crowd was super rowdy and it was AWESOME! We had so much fun and the show was so high energy. So far, the adventures seem to be just getting better.

More to come soon!
