Warped Tour: Week 1

Hey Everyone,

Being in a tour bus is a lot like being in a time machine...You go to sleep, and wake up somewhere entirely different. So most days begin with the usual routine...I wake up, step outside, and eyeball the landscape. Pomona, California...Great!! Been here twice before, so I know EXACTLY where the showers are. I hop on my bike, a twenty-one speed 'Giant' mountain bike, and head towards a clearing, squeezing down narrow alleys created between a sea of tour buses.

I'm delighted to arrive at a nearly vacant shower facility, as opposed to the long lines of filthy band dudes (myself included) that can often time plague the Warped Tour. After getting my hygiene on, I make my way to catering. Breakfast for me is orange juice, half a grapefruit and cereal. I don't like to limit myself to just one type of cereal, so I mix myself up a bowl of Special K, Cheerios, and Granola. Although most days begin in similar fashion, everyday has its unique schedule. The Gym Class Heroes set-time can be anywhere from noon to 8 p.m. Add a hefty press schedule, daily signing's and acoustic performances into the mix and you've got yourself one crazy schedule.

Our first day's off came three shows into the tour. We spent two days at Quixote Studios in Los Angeles shooting two music videos to be released this summer. Although a lot of work, we had a great time making them. Highlights include kickin' it with Busta Rhymes and smashing my drums with oversized Styrofoam letters. Once we wrapped the videos, we immediately hopped a plane to New York City for a photo shoot.

Since then, we rocked Phoenix, where it was 130 degrees surface temperature. We avoided the mid-day heat by being the closing band, but by then nearby lightning had ignited a small brush fire. Smoke clouds provided an eerily apocalyptic backdrop for our set, while scatterings of ash rained down on the crowd. Epic.

Check back next week for more news from the road...
PEACE!
