So, if you are JUST now joining us, let me catch you up to speed.
Cobra Starship (your new favorite band) has been on tour all summer on the "Vans Warped Tour." What is that, you might ask? It's a traveling festival with 80 + bands, 100 buses, and thousands of fans, out in the heat, in the sun, sweating their butts off in venues far away from civilization.
I know I may sound "salty" about the heat and the sun, but let's be honest, I get the option to stay in our tour bus, in the A.C. or even take a shower if I feel the need (I'd take two a day in this heat if I could).
This summer has been a BLAST so far. I've never been to summer camp, which is pretty much what this tour is like. I'm meeting tons of new people, get to perform everyday, aaand I've never been to a Jewish wedding before! For those of you who maybe got a little taste of our last blog, I'm certain that our drummerNate who wrote it, mentioned something about me leaving tour to go to my father's wedding. Let's start there…
On July 6th, my father exchanged vows with his new main squeeze beneath the (this starts with the sound like you are collecting phlegm out of your throat, and I'm sorry it probably isn't spelled like this) "Hoopa," maybe it's "Hupa" anyway, on the beautiful sunny beach in Miami, FL. Sure, it was hot standing on the beach in Miami in the beginning of July wearing a rental tux, but it was still nice to get a few days away from the tour, hang with my family, my two-year-old niece, my NEW family, and I spent some time with my mother up in Boca Raton. My girlfriend flew down for the wedding, and we had a great weekend together in hot sunny FL.
I flew up to New Orleans to meet back on the tour, but it was a day off from Warped Tour, but us Cobras were playing a DECAYDANCE RECORDS show with our good friends The Academy Is… and Gym Class Heroes at the House of Blues. These shows are always MAD fun, we get to hang with our bros, we're all practically like family.
Warped Tour then hits ATL and FL. We have been through Tampa, Orlando, Miami and St. Augustine (I think it's the oldest city in this country, little fun fact for ya there) but I have to say, Miami was the best show. We got a later set that day, 6:50, and when people have been at an all day festival since 10 a.m. in the sun, totally drained, you cannot expect much from them that late in the day. Thanks to hurricane season in FL, a big storm brewed up around 4 p.m. and revived everyone at the show, and we had an amazing turnout, and I don't think I've see that many people go that insane before.
We are in Ohio today. It's about 11 a.m., and I'm going to get out of my bunk now and start my day. Actually, we play in about 45 minutes, so I better get dressed and make some coffee. Last night's show was in Columbia, Maryland, and it was indeed a fun one, we always have a blast there!
Here's what's going on in these pics:
-- I snagged a pic of Gabe talking to some fans on the phone.
-- In Miami, I traded my autograph with a girl who just visited Disney World and met a lot of famous folks from there, Piglet, Tigger... you get the point. They signed her little book she had. I couldn't help notice these, so as I was about to sign it for her, I requested a trade. SCORE!
-- One day at the press tent, they had me sign a guitar for something. I was the first, and seeing as how I mostly wear black and white and I have my fancy little red sunglasses, I figured this would be appropriate.
Don't forget to check back next week to see what else is going on in Cobra land!
