Seems like even college professors are catching onto the latest trend in technology: Twitter. The social networking tool that lets users post tweets about virtually anything is being used to raise classroom participation. Professors think the benefits of using this technology will be long-term because it allows students and faculty members to always be in touch and updated on the latest news and findings.

Howard Rheingold , a digital journalism professor at UC Berkeley told U.S. News that Twitter can be described as "student-to-teacher-student ambient office hours" Now communication can be instantaneous and information can be shared within the classroom network anytime.
