Are Romantic Comedies Ruining Your Relationship?
Romantic comedies may be fun to watch, but it may be the buzz kill in your relationship. A study conducted by Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh warned that couples that watch romantic comedies were less likely to stay together.
The researchers gathered 100 students and half the group watched Serendipity while the other half sat through a David Lynch drama. A survey revealed that the students who watched the romantic flick were more prone to think that love was predestined and believe that fate played a role in their love life.
"The problem is that while most of us know that the idea of a perfect relationship is unrealistic, some of us are still more influenced by media portrayals than we realize," Dr. Bjarne Holmes says.
Watching films like Serendipity and Maid In Manhattan lead people to have unrealistic expectations when it comes to love and their own relationship, the study suggested.
