Are You Friends With Your Teacher on MySpace?

Is it appropriate to be friends with your teacher on social networking sites like MySpace or Facebook? It might seem harmless enough, but one Connecticut high school teacher learned the lesson the hard way.

Jeffrey Spanierman was an English teacher at a high school in Connecticut. He made a MySpace account and began friending students under his MySpace profile "Mr.Spiderman."

A guidance counselor came across his page and saw inappropriate pictures of naked men, and comments like this were exchanged:

Spanierman: "Repko and Ashley sittin in a tree. K I S S I N G. 1st comes love then comes marriage. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL"
Student: "dont be jealous cuase you cant get any lol :)"
Spanierman: "What makes you think I want any? I'm not jealous. I just like to have fun and goof on you guys. If you don't like it. Kiss my brass! LMAO"

After repeated warning, Mr.Spanierman got rid of his page, and then opened another one under a different name. The teacher was subsequently fired.
