What Do You Think Of Gay High Schools?

In 2010, Chicago could have their first high school designed for gay, lesbian and transgender teens. "Official say the School for Social Justice Pride Campus will not be specifically for gay teenagers, but will cater to them."

"If you look at national studies, you see gay and lesbian students with high dropout rates," Chicago Public School Chief Arne Duncan said. "I think there is a niche there we need to fill."

Those in favor of the new school say that it will create a safe environment for gay students. A Chicago district survey revealed that gay teenagers are three times more likely to skip school because of safety issues.

Others say this will encourage the segregation of gay and straight students, and gay rights advocates are encouraging programs on acceptance and non-segregation instead of wasting public funding on a new school.

What do you think? Should high schools exclusively cater to gay students? Sound off now!
