Should Songs Be Used As Jingles?

Chris Brown's "Forever" isn't just a smashing hit single, it's also a jingle for Doublemint! The song is actually an extended jingle that Chris Brown wrote himself. Turns out he's not the only one singing tunes for a Wrigley's gum. The ad agency, Translation Advertising, is also working with Ne-Yo (for Big Red's "kiss a little longer" jingle) and Julianne Hough (Juicy Fruit's "The taste is gonna move ya" jingle).

Chris Brown first recorded the jingle with a hip-hop twist, then wrote his own lyrics and turned it into the radio hit "Forever." The lyrics for the jingle are different from the song. The only common lyric is, "double your pleasure" but it's resemblance to "Forever" is uncanny.

Tom Carrabba, executive vice president and general manager of Sony BMG's Zomba Label Group expressed to The Wall Street Journal they had some problems with the idea at first but added, "But the song was so potent and strong. That overruled us being maybe a little hesitant."
