Should Teens Get Tattoos?
These days it's not piercings, fashion, or make-up that teens and parents argue about -- it's tattoos. It's easy to see why tattoos are coveted by teens. Celebs like Rihanna, Megan Fox, and Angelina Jolie sport multiple tattoos. And it doesn't help that TV shows like Miami Ink and L.A. Ink have gained popularity.
When Kaitlyn Tracy was 16, she wanted a tattoo. Her mom promised her to get her a tattoo as a gift if she stopped asking all the time. And when Kaitlyn turned 18, her mom took her to get her first tattoo -- a rose on her chest, just like her mom's. "I got the rose on my chest to honor my mother," Kaitlyn explained. "You see, she got a rose on her chest when she turned 18, too, so I'm just following her."
Another parent, Phyllis Manna allowed her teenage sons to get inked when they were 16. She thought it was, "a way of expressing themselves." "If you talk to my 24-year-old today, he will say he feels he has too many and should have stopped," she said. "And my youngest son recently ran into a problem at a new job because he wanted to cover his arms because he has so many tattoos."
In most states you have to be 18, but under aged teens can get tattoos with parental consent. The parent must be with the minor and has to provide a written consent along with a photo ID.
