Are Teens Ready To Be Moms?

Teen pregnancy is on the rise in one high school in Massachusetts. Seventeen girls (all under 16) at Gloucester High School are expecting babies this summer. That's an alarming leap -- it's almost four times as many from the previous year. So what's to blame in this sudden rise in pregnancy rates? People speculated that it's because movies like Juno and Knocked Up glorify pregnancy. Or maybe it's all thanks to media's obsession with celeb pregnancies, like 17-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears. But principal Joseph Sullivan revealed to Time magazine that the reason for an increase in teen pregnancy is a pact. The girls made a pact to get pregnant at the same time and raise the babies together. When they found out they were all pregnant, they exchanged high fives and made plans for baby showers.

In light of what's happened, nurse practitioner Kim Daly is trying to implement a program where teens can have access to birth control without parental consent. As of now, the closest clinic to the school is about 20 miles away.
