Does Music Influence Your Mood?
Will listening to happy tunes by Selena Gomez make you a more positive person? U.K. scientists say yes! They found that positive music makes the listener more socially conscious.
Dr Tobias Greitemeyer from the University of Sussex gathered students and separated them into two different groups. One group listened to socially-conscious songs and the other half-listened to songs with neutral messages. In the middle of the listening session, he stopped the music and "accidentally" dropped a cup of pencils.
Students who listened to songs like Michael Jackson's "Heal the World" responded faster and picked up almost five times as many pencils as the students in the other group. After the listening session, both groups were asked to volunteer for an additional project and three times as many people from the "pro-social" group agreed.
What do you think? Does caring music make people more socially conscious? Sound off now!
