Do Video Games Cause Teen Violence?

For years, parents have been pointing the finger at violent video games, blaming them for their teens and tweens' violent behavior. But could the kids themselves believe that video games cause them to be violent, too?

Do The Write Thing, a program about the effect of violence on teens' lives, recently had participants write essays on the topic. The National Campaign to Stop Violence analyzed these essays and the results were shocking -- 30 percent of middle school students said that violence in TV, video games, movies and music provoked their real-life violence.

"The significance of this study is that it is not parents, educators or social scientists decrying violence in the entertainment industry," said Dr. Peter Jensen, Chairman of the New York City Do the Write Thing program. "It is the young people themselves who are speaking out about the negative impact the violent content has on them."

Do you think video games provoke violence in teens? Are other media also to blame? Sound off!
