What Do You Think of the New Barbie?
Stacy McBride-Irby created the So In Style Barbie line for Mattel because she felt African American girls were under-represented in the Barbie community. She watched her daughter playing with the dolls and wanted to create a toy that looked more like her. The new So In Style line features three dolls: Grace, Kara and Trichelle with fuller lips, wider noses and curly hair, according to Mattel.
"They mean so much to me because they did come from a positive place," Ms. McBride-Irby tells CNN. "I've had dads thank me for creating this line of dolls that represent their little girls. These dolls are for girls all over the world."
Tyaine Danclaire liked Trichelle's long, straight hair because it looked like "a weave" but felt that it was "sorta racist," according to the NY Daily News. "They say black girls are ghetto with the gold earrings, with the big bling; I don't agree with that."
