William Beckett, The Academy Is…

I was really, really big into sports for the first half of my high school career. I played baseball and basketball, and I was quite good in baseball. I liked basketball better, but I wasn't as good. And then I quit because my family moved around, and we actually moved to the rival school. It sounds quite trivial right now, but it was actually quite a big deal for me then. But looking at it now, it's like, you know, it is what it is. I always loved music and always played in little bands and whatever. Played drums. But that's when I started taking music more seriously and started writing songs on my own -- that was the beginning of it, I guess. And from that point on, I was kind of the guy that dressed very, very differently from everybody else. I kept to myself. I was pretty quiet. All of the dudes who I used to play sports with called me gay while I was dating their girlfriends, and they didn't know that. Silent, but deadly.
