Friends…For A Fee
Myth: You're pay for friends.
Truth: Yes, sororities have membership fees, but you aren't paying for friends -- you're paying to be part of a historic group that shares a common belief. Much of the money goes toward membership recruitment, service projects, sisterhood activities, social functions, special events, and upkeep of the sorority house. When you join a sorority, you are simply making friends and then attending events with them. In fact, some sorority girls have said, "If I am paying for my sorority sisters as friends, then I am clearly not paying enough." The dues shouldn't be a factor when deciding to join a sorority: payment plans can be worked out, so each sister can be comfortably accommodated.
